Outpatient Imaging Center Q&A

What is an imaging center?

The outpatient imaging centers at Radiology Imaging Associates includes all the newest state-of-the-art equipment to diagnose and evaluate a comprehensive spectrum of conditions affecting the blood vessels, bones, organs, and nearly all parts of the body.

But, it’s not just the equipment that makes an imaging center: It’s the specialists who perform the tests and evaluate results. The Radiology Imaging Associates team includes the foremost radiologists in the Denver metropolitan area, all with extensive training and years of experience in diagnostics.

Diagnostics refers to exams, tests, and procedures that can uncover the cause of your symptoms. The term also refers to preventive screenings, which are often a way to diagnose certain conditions long before they start to cause any symptoms.

What diagnostic tests does the outpatient imaging centers offer?

The imaging center has many types of imaging technology, such as:

  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Computed tomography (CT) scan
  • Live X-rays (fluoroscopy)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Mammography
  • Colonography
  • Coronary Artery Calcium Screening
  • DEXA Scan
  • Genetic Counseling
  • Pain Management
  • Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
  • Lung Screening

While these tests are used for diagnostic purposes, it’s important to know that many of them are also used during treatments.

What problems can the outpatient imaging centers detect?

Just a few of the conditions that Radiology Imaging Associates can detect through radiology diagnostics are:

  • Stroke
  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • Problem veins in ovaries, legs, kidneys, or other areas

Diagnostic radiology can also detect many other problems in nearly any part of the body.

What if diagnostics show a serious problem?

If your diagnostic images indicate a serious problem with your health, the Radiology Imaging Associates team is here for you. In many cases, problems that are serious or potentially even life-threatening are treatable with minimally invasive approaches.

For example, the endovascular and neurovascular specialists often combine advanced imaging procedures and innovative minimally invasive surgery to correct problems like artery narrowing, blockages, and embolisms without needing to perform open (major) surgery.

Some radiologists also have specialized training to focus on oncology (cancer treatment). Rest assured, the team will work closely with your referring physician to make certain you receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.

When it comes to diagnostics, you need providers with a practiced eye and stellar reputation. After all, it could be your health on the line. Radiology Imaging Associates has an outstanding reputation throughout Colorado and the rest of the country as innovators who provide exemplary diagnostics and treatment care.

What should I do before visiting the imaging center?

Every imaging test or procedure may require a different kind of preparation. For example, if you’re having a bone scan (DEXA), the team usually tells you to avoid calcium supplements for at least one day beforehand.

Some imaging tests require you to fast for at least four hours before the exam, while others require you to drink a lot of water beforehand. Medication use is on a case-by-case basis; the team will carefully review every drug and supplement you take ahead of time and provide specific directions.

All tests in the imaging center are same-day, and you can return home immediately afterward. Even if you need a minimally invasive procedure, all services are provided on an outpatient basis at the imaging center.
